Fire Retardant Wood

Wood is a staple in some aspect of almost every building. Because it is so essential to a building’s structure, all measures need to be taken to preserve and maintain the wood’s health. Doing so will maintain its performance and protect a building owner’s investment. One way to protect a wooden structure from damage is to use fire retardant wood.

To create fire retardant wood, a chemical preservative is applied to the wood. This chemical preservative provides the wood with a lot of benefits. Aside from creating a flame resistant product, the chemical preservatives used to create fire retardant wood have been shown to extend the wood’s lifespan. It also can extend its durability. Additionally, when wood is treated with these chemical preservatives, it provides the wood with resistance from fungus and insects that may try to destroy it.

It is a common misconception amongst people to believe that fire resistant wood is not practical. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Fire retardant wood has many common applications. This type of wood can be used to construct roof and floor trusses, decks, roofs, paneling, architectural millwork, sheathing, and just about any other type of architectural structure made out of wood. It’s a great product for all aspects of the design build process that require wood.

What’s great about fire retardant wood is that it has so many features. This type of wood is non-corrosive, easy to work with, and durable. Just like non-treated wood, fire retardant wood can be painted and stained. So using flame retardant wood is just like using regular, untreated wood but with a lot more benefits and better productivity.

There are so many benefits and features to fire retardant wood. With so many positive effects, fire retardant wood is becoming an essential part to all phases of construction.
